Testesterone Replacement...

Well I've been taking testesterone in one form or another since I was about 12 or 13 years old...I'm now 38.... and during that time I've tried various forms of the medication, each time to suit a particular need....

Age 12-16...
When I had my pituitary gland removed, obviously my testesterone levels dropped to zero. I can't remember exactly when, but a year or so later I was prescribed 'Sustanon 250' injections by my endocrinologist. Initially these were given once every fortnight by a nurse at the local doctor's surgery. The injection was a thick, oily substance - hence the assistance of a nurse - which was injected into the 'backside'. It was quite a painful injection, and it was often difficult to sleep on the side that the injection had been given for a night or two...The effects of this treatment were pretty good though. Over the following years I experimented with various doses over varying frequencies (weekly, fortnightly etc.) until I found a dose suitable for me. Overall the treatment is good, but on the downside if taken over a period of weeks, testesterone levels will obviously peak and trough throughout that time.

Late teens...
As I approached my mid teens, I felt that I needed something extra to the Sustanon treatment I was receiving. Although I had grown pubic hair (facially and in the pubic areas) and seemed to have a normal sex drive, I still had not ejaculated and was very conscious of this...It was at this point that I was transferred from the childrens to the adult outpatients clinic of the Heath Hospital in Cardiff. There, under Professor Hall's direction, I was prescribed a combination of 'Perganol' and 'Profasi' - which I believe is a combination of LH and LSH. In a nutshell, this worked wonders! I remember Professor Hall telling me at the time that the treatment was expensive, and to be careful I didn't get anyone pregnant....I won't go into details but let's just say I was lucky! ;-)
On a more serious note, Perganol worked very well for me. It seemed to kickstart ejaculation combined with an increased sexual drive. On the downside, I had to inject 3 times a weeks, but sometimes its worth it...

Early twenties...
After a couple of years, I was prescribed testesterone treatment again. LH / LSH are only really required if an individual wants to start a family. As I was too young for this (or so I thought), I went back on 'Sustanon' which suited me for many years afterwards.

Early thirties...
My - where has the time gone! At this point my wife and I were ready to start a family, so I replaced the testesterone treatment for Leutenising hormone and follicle stimulating hormone products instead (I think one of the commercial names for these drugs was 'Monagon')....Unfortunately, after 2 years, I was told that my sperm producing cells had become dormant because they had been inactive for so long. This was devastating news. Thus my advice to anyone wanting to start a family with a pituitary problem is to start as early as possible.
My vote : 0/10(although I'm sure this has been successful for others...)

Mid thirties...
Because the fertility treatment did not work, I went back to a testesterone based medication. Tired of injections, I asked my endocrinologist for alternatives. I tried the 'patch' for a while ('Andropatch') - a patch you stick to the skin each day. I found this very impractical. The patch would become loose by mid afternoon, or if you had a shower or bath, or sweated heavily, it would come off completely.

Late thirties...(ie. now!)
I next tried the gel form of testesterone ('testogel'), that you rub into the arms or legs each day. Personally this has worked very well for me - no injections, and a daily dose of testesterone is guaranteed each time. So it comes highly recommended, and I will be staying with this treatment for hopefully quite some time.
